Legend of Dragoon

Why is this such an amazing game?

I was on vacation in Hawaii in the Summer of 2000 when I was just 11 years old, and this game came out. I was in a Walmart (Yeah no kidding, vacation in Hawaii, and I’m in a Walmart…) and I saw this game on the rack. Picked it up, read the back, it sounded awesome and I just had to get it.

Took it home, got back at like 4am after a plane flight and a long drive home. Put it in and instantly loved it. I spent nearly the whole day playing, didn’t even sleep after my vacation and jet lag. I couldn’t put the damn game down!

Now, basically every year, it’s like a ritual to me. I have to play this game. Whether I borrow a PS2 from a friend (my fucking PS3 isn’t backwards compatible, fuck you Sony) to play my old copy, or just download an emulator on my computer and just play it from there, I just have to play this amazing gem of a game. It’s SO underrated, and I really wish it could have had an bigger fanbase.

The game was released for the PSX a mere 4 months before the PS2 came out, literally the end of the PSX’s lifespan, and was one of the most amazing games to ever come out.  I wish Sony, or some other company could pick it up and make a prequel, sequel, or just remake it to give it the fanbase it deserves (prequel being the most obvious choice, anyone having played the game knows just how much untouched story there is that happened before the current setting).
Something needs to be done. Anything.

To top it all off, the game was just semi-recently released on the Japan Playstation Network for download, and the date just happened to be on my birthday, December 22nd, last year. The only way it could have been better was it if was released to NA on that date. Oh well. This game was made for me.

Anyway, that was a rather huge post, but deserving of my favorite game in existence. <3

Long live The Legend of Dragoon!
